Zoetry Marigot Bay Hotel Marigot Bay - LCA001

Famously described by novelist James Michener as ‘the most beautiful bay in the Caribbean’, Marigot Bay provides an idyllic setting for this romantic resort. Cascading down a hillside in three tiers, this recently refurbished resort is a charming alternative to the island’s beachfront hotels.

December 2014 Review, source: Trip advisor

I’ve just come back from a stay at the new Capella in Marigot Bay (formerly Discovery). Had a terrific week and whilst I can’t comment on the facilities as the restaurants, spa and main pool hadn’t quite opened when I was there, I understand they are all up and running now and the official launch will take place on 15th December. It is a great spot and has been very tastefully renovated. The rooms are beautiful and look out over the bay (which is a special way to start the day). You have your own personal jacuzzis on your deck (which is a great way to finish the day!) And you are surrounded by a wealth of good restaurants to go to in the evening (or you can cook at ‘home’ as the units are self contained.) There is a supermarket at the Marina or a less pricey one not far away if you have a car to get you there.

The staff are all extremely friendly and helpful too. You should hire a car when you are there as there are great beaches to explore on the island although you can just take a free water taxi over the beach adjacent to Doolitles if you want to stick to a beach closer by. My main comment here is that you are likely to be a bit more badgered by people selling their wares here than some of the other beaches I went to. The beach isn’t as picturesque as the likes of Sugar Beach or Pigeon Island.

We did a helicopter transfer on arrival to St Lucia https://www.stluciahelicopters.com/ which was a great way to see the island and is a lot shorter than getting a taxi up to Marigot Bay. Be prepared, the roads are very windy if you are prone to car sickness!

In terms of eating: The Rainforest Hideaway lived up to its reviews and the food and ambience really is terrific.

The Red snapper at Chateau Mygo was a bit of a favourite.

I enjoyed Rowleys for breakfast and lunch at the Marina. It also does takeaway if you want it.

Sugar Beach Resort, we had lunch and went to the beach. They didn’t charge for sun loungers and the swim there is exceptional between the Pitons, you can also do plenty of water sports. The food was also very good.

Anse Chastenet and Pigeon beach were both excellent for food and beach time.

Fish Friday at Anse le Raye is a great experience where lobster and rum cocktails are the order of the day (at extremely reasonable prices). It is just on Friday evenings and has a great atmosphere.

All in all, I would highly recommend the Capella resort if you want a sophisticated, relaxing break away .

DINING

Dining at Capella Marigot Bay is a celebration of the wonderful relationship between Saint Lucians and their cuisine.

With an emphasis on prime meat cuts and the freshest, locally sourced seafood, produce and spices, Executive Chef Brendan McGowan crafts inventive seasonal menus, incorporating the traditional flavors of Saint Lucia as well as contemporary influences from America and Europe. On any given day, the Capella culinary team is nurturing relationships with Saint Lucian farmers and fisherman while selecting ingredients from the hotel’s private herb garden to weave into their dishes and cocktails.

Gracious service and creative cuisine may be enjoyed in a variety of settings throughout the resort, from our signature restaurant high above the waters of Marigot Bay to a marina café, swim-up pool bar and raw bar and a distillery-inspired lounge for sampling the Caribbean’s premier rums and cigars. You are also invited to enjoy a private dining experience on your room’s private terrace.
