Mountain-side dormitories and simple rooms for those climbing Mount Kinabalu.

These no-frills dormitories are provided for climbers of Mount Kinabalu.

All climbers not participating in the via ferrata stay at Laban Rata. Dorm rooms are assigned upon arrival. If the sun has been shining, a very limited supply of solar-heated hot water is available for showering. This runs out quickly so if you are one of the earlier climbers to reach Laban Rata and want a warm shower, it's recommended that you try for a shower straightaway. Laban Rata guests have sheets and blankets provided and you may want to bring a lightweight towel as the towel supply is limited.

Supper for all climbers is served at Laban Rata. Outside of meal times when hot water and/or coffee and tea are available, all beverages must be purchased. Tap water is natural mountain spring water and it is advised that climbers bring tablets or a filter to treat the water before drinking. The early morning meal is more comprehensive than that served at Pendant Hut with rice, noodles, and toast available. A full buffet is served to climbers who return from the summit before 10:00am.

In addition to the dorms, there are four private rooms: two that sleep six people and two that sleep two. Each room has a private bathroom. The double rooms each have two single beds while the six-person rooms have three sets of bunk beds.

Those participating in via ferrata activities stay at Pendant Hut. Dorms have 6-8 beds and shared bathrooms. Hot water, tea, coffee, and safe drinking water are provided for guests booked into Pendant Hut. A light breakfast of toast is available prior to the 2:30-3:00am start up the summit and a simple meal is provided for climbers returning from the via ferrata before descending to Park HQ. Pendant Hut provides guests with a sleeping bag and liner that is removed and laundered.

Slippers are provided at both although guests at Laban Rata may find it helpful to bring thick socks to wear within the building as the slippers are quite flimsy and it gets cold at an altitude of 3,273 meters.

Additional information and suggested packing list will be provided to Fleewinter clients who book a climb up Mount Kinabalu as part of their travels in Malaysia.
